Going to Preschool

Will was so excited this morning. He was ready to go by 8:00 am and the bus wasn't scheduled to pick him up until 8:52. We sat on the porch and talked about what fun things he was going to get to do at school. He had his lunch bag and his backpack. I took a few pictures of him waiting. Then the bus pulls up and I follow him down the sidewalk (to get some pictures of him on the bus) and he turns around and says "You're not coming with me!" Jackie (the bus driver) laughs and says "He sure is independent!" I smile and wholeheartedly agree. My baby is riding the bus to preschool. As the bus pulls away I get a little teary. He's growing up so fast.

First day of School

Lauren is entering junior high this year. She has her own locker with a lock. She has been practicing with the combination for days now. She has to switch classes every 43 minutes. She will have school dances. She was only a little nervous. I am nervous right along with her. Junior high can be difficult for girls. I only hope that she has a better experience than I did.

Alec begins his first day of 3rd grade today. This year he will switch teachers - one teaches math, science, and social studies, and the other teaches language arts, spelling, and reading. It is his last year in the Milledgeville building until he enters high school. He is excited. I am in shock at how big he has gotten and how fast the time flies by!

Will gets to ride the bus to preschool next Thursday! Pictures to come!

Life

I can't believe how fast this year is flying by. We are halfway though it and I just want everything to stop for a moment. Lauren has finished 5th grade and in the fall will join the ranks of the Junior High. Ugh. Alec finished 2nd grade with great grades and an excellent Accelerated Reader record. He has one more year in Milledgeville before having to ride the shuttle bus over to Chadwick. Will had a great time in the Tot-time program offered by our Park District. We signed him up for T-ball this summer and his pictures are SO cute! Lauren is in the home stretch of finishing her softball season. Her team won their first game in the tournament. She has improved greatly over this season. She is even able to hit off the really fast pitchers! Yay Lauren! Alec is having fun in his second year of PeeWee baseball. He has become one of their best hitters and has been playing different positions to see where he is best suited. He likes to play short stop and pitchers helper the best. In one more month he will start football. There is a league in the town next to us that has a 7-8 year old team and he really wants to play. I pray that he doesn't get hurt. He is so athletic and I do want to give him the opportunity to learn more about the sport. I guess mostly I am just wishing I could keep my kids from growing up too fast. I love every hug I get from William with the little pats of his hand on my back. I love how Alec always asks to be tickled before bedtime. I love how Lauren still likes me to read to her (although the books have drastically changed over the years). But time marches on and I guess I just have to savor these moments for now and remember them.
